It seems that the Muslim Brotherhood organization (MB) is doomed to be scattered and split. The MB in Libya is suffering the same problems of Ennahda movement in Tunisia, where divisions and fissures take place, against the background of differences between its branches and leaders supported by Turkey and Qatar.
Only two months ago, the MB of Azzawia, west of the capital Tripoli, announced that the MB group had been dismantled after a mass resignation. They said that the reason for their resignation was the delay to implement some approved issues, to give priority to the interest of the country and citizens.
In turn, Khaled Al-Mashrim, the head of the Supreme Council of State, submitted his resignation from the organization last year, stressing that this step is based on national, intellectual and political issues.
He added that he respect of the organization.
Mass Resignation
And in the latest divisions and rifts within the group, MB members of the Misurata branch, the largest Islamist stronghold in Libya, announced their mass resignation from the organization, accusing the organization’s leadership in Tripoli of reversing the obligations agreed upon in the 10th conference in 2015, including the reviews and corrections.
Analysts and observers of Libyan affair considered that dismantling the organization in Misrata is a balanced and effective act, even if it is a maneuver and to delude the Libyans that the MB desires to get out of Libya through the border point of Jilbab al-Ghariany.
Obtained data and information indicate that there is an obvious hot competition between the local and central leaders of MB, to get new positions within the organization in western Libya, and the Libyan territories in general.
In a statement issued by the resigned members, they said that their decision means dismantling the organization in Misrata, against the background of the “group’s disrupting to implement the reviews and corrections reached by the group’s members at their tenth conference in 2015.”
They pointed out that their decision came after discussions and consultations, and that “the timeframe in which the group emerged and the temporal development in its environment and reality, necessitate re-reading the scene, reviewing and correcting it.”
“Yesterday’s right may not fit today’s requirements. The 10th conference 2015, in which those reviews were approved by an absolute majority, was the title of a new phase that we wished. However, the group’s leadership procrastinated and obstructing those decisions, prompted us to take a stance towards procrastination,” they added.
Confusing Turkish Plans:
It is noteworthy that the spiritual guide of the Libyan MB, the former Grand Mufti of Libya, Sadiq al-Ghariani, is currently residing in Turkey, where the regime provided a safe haven for him, in addition to media platforms for propaganda and marketing the Turkish project in the region. The Turkish president, in coordination with the Qatari leadership, had previously intervened, to urgently rearrange the MB’s presence in Libya and prevent rifts and internal rivalries after the head of the GNA, announced his intention to step down from the position based on the results of the Libyan dialogue sponsored by Morocco, which achieved tangible progress and consensus on a mechanism for assignment of sovereign positions.
Consequently, dismantling the MB in Misurata may confuse the Turkish plan in the region and scatter Erdogan’s papers, as it is one of the biggest strongholds of Islamic groups that the GNA – backed by Turkey and Qatar- depends on.
The group’s resignation in Misrata comes at a time when the international community and Western countries welcomed the results announced by the UN Mission in Libya in the Geneva military talks between the delegations of the National Army led by Marshal Khalifa Haftar, and the GNA headed by Fayez Al-Sarraj.
During the past two days, the city of Misurata witnessed great tension due to the arrest of Muhammad Ba’ayo, head of the government media institution.
Counter-revolution
On the other hand, the Shura Council of the Libyan MB announced that no individual or group in any branch of the organization has the right to dismantle or freeze the branch, stressing that this is a genuine jurisdiction to run the institution.
In a statement on what the institution is going through internally and about the announced resignations, the council stated that the aim and path of any individual resignation, regardless of its motives, is known. It stressed that it is a guaranteed right for every member according to the organization’s low, and he must submit a formal request to the administration under his name and signature.
The council pointed out that there is postponing for the decisions of the organizations, adding that the delayed implementation of these decisions, which were successive in several departments, was for objective reasons, and other urgent ones known for the group and documented by official records and internal referendums.
The council stressed that no decision was issued by the group’s institutions to dismantle the group, explaining that the decisions issued are within the framework of improvement and development of work to keep pace with changes that are still taking place until now.
The council claimed that since its creation, the group has worked and is still working with all the good people of the nation, in the interest of the country, considering the smear campaigns that the group is exposed to from what it described as “counter-revolution”, is a misleading act intended to spread discord among people.
The council concluded its statement by noting that the workplace and serving the nation can accommodate everyone, and it requires every sincere effort that contributes to building homeland.
