Egypt Sets Conditions for Reconciliation with Turkey

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has set several conditions for normalizing relations with Ankara. Among the conditions, Shoukry requested to see tangible changes in the negative attitudes of Turkish politicians towards Egypt.

He considered that the current tension between the two countries does not reflect the relationship between the people of Egypt and Turkey.

Shoukry also stressed that it is important for Turkey not to interfere in the domestic affairs of other countries and to adopt regional policies that are compatible with Egyptian policy, and that will be a basis for normal relations between the two countries.

He also pointed out that Egypt has a balanced foreign policy towards all parties, and it is not against any party.

At the same time, he noted that there are particular difficulties in light of developments and polarization on the international scene.

In conjunction, informed sources revealed that leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood held meetings in the British capital, London.

The sources indicated that those meetings focused on the issue of Turkish-Egyptian rapprochement and its implications on the leaders of the group residing on Turkish territory, preparing for the repercussions of any possible reconciliation and the resulting handover of some of the members of the Egyptian group escaping to the security authorities in Cairo.

The sources also pointed out that these meetings lead to several perceptions about the crisis of MB residents in Turkey, including those convicted of death or life sentences. MB leaders believe that they have to find other safe havens outside Turkey, in countries that do not have exchange criminals agreements with Egypt.

Regarding those convicted with sentences ranging from 3 to 7 years, the MB will coordinate with the Turkish authorities to grant them temporary residency status.
